The family is God's smallest battle formation!

I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes."

How important are families?

They are of vital importance!

“It is in the life of the family upon which, in the last analysis, the whole welfare of the nation rests… the nation is nothing but the aggregate of the families within its borders.”
- President Theodore Roosevelt

I was doing a Bible Challenge reading and was touched by the role of "family leaders" during the rebuilding of Israel after the exile as told in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah (Ezra 2:68). I did a quick search for "family leaders" (HCSB translation, "heads of families" in the NIV) and found 4 references in Ezra and 3 in Nehemiah.

Families were instrumental in the rebuilding of the nation of Israel, and it is my belief that families are the key social unit to any nation or culture. If you want to improve a neighborhood, city, state, or nation then start with strengthening the families within their borders.

“The natural family, creation of God, is the fundamental human community, based on the life-long marriage between a man and a woman, in which new individuals are conceived, born and raised.”
- World Congress of Families. The Warsaw Declaration, 2007.

Principles of the natural family from the Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States of America:

Families, and specifically children or “posterity”, are so important that our founding fathers wrote them into the founding documents of the United States of America.

Dr. Alan Keyes, Constitutional Scholar, explains, “But the ultimate stated goal of the U.S. Constitution is ‘to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.’ [Posterity = unborn offspring] When it comes to the blessings of liberty, the Constitution places our posterity on an equal level with ourselves.”

“The Declaration refers to these concepts [of right and the nature of the universe] as ‘the laws of Nature and of Nature's God.’. . . This covenant between God and humankind, which appears in the union of man and woman, in accordance with their distinctive forms of humanity, and for the sake of human procreation, is marriage. Understood in this way, marriage is the freely accepted consequence of the natural obligation to preserve humanity.”

You and your family have a direct impact on destiny!

As husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, we have a serious responsibility to the future of humanity. Families are of vital importance.

The future is up to you!

“A major reason, according to Mr. Rector, for children living in poverty is the breakdown of families. Rector notes, ‘If work in each family were raised to 2,000 hours per year -- the equivalent of one adult working 40 hours per week … -- nearly 75 percent of poor children would be lifted out of official poverty. … If poor mothers married the fathers of their children, nearly three quarters of the nation’s impoverished youth would immediately be lifted out of poverty.’ As I have often said, there is no government program big enough to make up for the breakdown of the family.”(Gary Bauer “End of Day Report 8-28-2007” American Values)
